What makes us different

When a loan settles, most brokers send a gift hamper.

We pack snack packs instead.

My Mortgage Concierge is a family business, and Vinnies is part of how we work. Every Thursday, our team gets together in our boardroom and we pack snack packs for people doing it tough.

The funding is simple. For every loan I settle, instead of sending a client a congratulations gift, I put one hundred dollars from our commission into the snack packs. We have been doing it for about two years now.

I deliver them myself. I probably should have handed that job over by now, but I like being the one who turns up. My two boys have volunteered in the kitchen. I am also one of the parents who collects the sandwiches, fruit and supplies the school has gathered, and drops them down to the kitchen. Living around the corner helps.

What I did not expect was what it would do inside the business. Packing on a Thursday has become one of the ways our team connects. It is not a value written on a wall. It is an hour in a room, doing something with our hands, for someone we will possibly never meet.

Our clients know their settlement contributes to it. Most of them say they would rather that than a hamper.

If you are building a business and wondering where giving fits, my honest view is this: build it into the work, not around the edges of it. That is the version that lasts.

Happy to share what we learned if you are thinking about doing something similar in a small team.
